I worry that they would not since there would be no effective way to put DRM on the disk to prevent people from just creating it and spreading it around (Although Acronis, which is paid only, still lets you make a bootdisk anyway that has no DRM) The only documentation I could find was that if you START an incremental backup from the Windows app, there is a convoluted series of steps you can follow to add onto the incremental backup from the boot disk, but I could not find any documentation or forum posts that confirm or deny if you can START an incremental backup from the bootdisk. Since even the free version of Macrium lets you create said boot disk, I have no idea if the paid version creates any different version of said boot disk that would have the incremental feature or not. That works fine for me if I want to backup my data drive, but I don't know if I will be able to backup my OS drive.
For just creating a bootdisk and doing a backup of an OS drive it's fine, but one of the features explicitly only in the paid versions is incremental backups. I have used Macrium Reflect in the past, it's free version. I tried a demo of the latest version on a new system and it loaded my Windows install with over a dozen background processes that start on boot and kept identifying perfectly valid software like Irfanview as critical malware despite just wanting to do a backup. I used the Windows application to backup my data drives, and burned a boot CD to boot into to backup my OS drive as I don't trust doing a backup of the OS drive while the system is running, even though some backup software claims it can do that.Īnyway, Acronis has really lost focus from what it used to be, bloating the backup application with anti-malware, antivirus, firewalls, and all sorts of other nonsense.
and my question is about something I want to know if the product supports BEFORE I buy it. It's very hard to find any information on this subject, especially since Macrium's forums are only for people who have purchased the product.
